Add rich colour and fascinating behaviour to your aquarium with the striking Blue Kribensis. This beautiful West African dwarf cichlid is known for its shimmering blue highlights, deep purple tones, and engaging personality. A hardy and intelligent species, it’s a fantastic choice for aquarists wanting a colourful cichlid with real character and breeding interest.

Often simply called “Kribensis”, this blue variant brings an extra level of visual impact while still remaining one of the most beginner-friendly dwarf cichlids available in the UK hobby.

📏 Care Requirements
🧬 Scientific Name: Pelvicachromis pulcher (Blue variant)
📛 Common Name: Blue Kribensis / Kribensis Cichlid
🏠 Tank Size: 60L+ recommended (larger for breeding pairs)
🌡️ Temperature: 24–28°C
⚗️ pH Range: 6.0–7.5
🧘 Temperament: Peaceful to semi-territorial (especially when breeding)
🍽️ Diet: Micro pellets, sinking pellets, frozen/live foods (bloodworm, brine shrimp, daphnia)
👥 Group Size: Best kept as a bonded pair or small group in larger tanks

Blue Kribensis thrive in well-structured aquariums with caves, driftwood, and plant cover. They appreciate soft substrate areas for digging and spawning.

🐠 Compatibility
Suitable for peaceful community aquariums with robust tank mates such as tetras, rainbowfish, rasboras, corydoras, and other non-aggressive species. Avoid very small fry-sized tank mates or overly aggressive fish.

⚠️ Important Notes
Blue Kribensis are excellent parents and will actively guard eggs and fry. During breeding, they may become territorial, so providing space and hiding areas is important.

They are one of the easiest dwarf cichlids to breed, making them ideal for aquarists interested in observing natural parental behaviour.

The Blue Kribensis is a fantastic choice for UK fishkeepers looking for a hardy, colourful, and personality-filled cichlid for community or breeding aquariums.
