🔥 Buenos Aires Tetra (Hyphessobrycon anisitsi)

Add bold colour and lively movement to your aquarium with the hardy Buenos Aires Tetra. Known for its silver body, striking red fins, and black-edged tail, this active species brings constant energy and presence to larger community aquariums.

One of the most robust tetras available, Buenos Aires Tetras are ideal for aquarists looking for a durable, fast-moving schooling fish that stands out.

🌿 Why Choose Buenos Aires Tetra?

❤️ Bright red fin and tail accents
🐠 Hardy and adaptable tropical fish
⚡ Very active schooling behaviour
🌱 Best suited for larger community aquariums
⭐ Reliable and long-established species in the UK

When kept in groups, Buenos Aires Tetras form fast, energetic shoals that add movement and excitement to the aquarium.

📏 Care Requirements

🧬 Scientific Name: Hyphessobrycon anisitsi
📛 Common Name: Buenos Aires Tetra
🏠 Tank Size: 80L+ recommended
🌡️ Temperature: 20–28°C
⚗️ pH Range: 6.0–7.5
🧘 Temperament: Peaceful but active (may nip soft plants)
🍽️ Diet: Flakes, micro pellets, frozen & live foods
👥 Group Size: 6–10+ recommended

Buenos Aires Tetras are very adaptable and tolerate a wide range of water conditions. They do best in spacious aquariums with strong filtration and plenty of swimming room.

🐠 Compatibility

Best suited for active community aquariums with similarly robust fish such as barbs, larger tetras, rainbowfish, and Corydoras. Avoid delicate, slow-moving, or long-finned species, as their activity can cause stress or fin nipping.

Important Notes

Buenos Aires Tetras are known to occasionally nip soft-leaved plants, so hardy plants or artificial aquascapes may be more suitable. Keeping them in larger groups helps reduce fin-nipping behaviour and encourages natural schooling.

The Buenos Aires Tetra is an excellent choice for UK aquarists looking for a tough, energetic, and visually striking schooling fish that thrives in larger community setups.
