📏 Care Requirements
🧬 Scientific Name: Hyphessobrycon anisitsi
📛 Common Name: Buenos Aires Tetra
🏠 Tank Size: 80L+ recommended
🌡️ Temperature: 20–28°C
⚗️ pH Range: 6.0–7.5
🧘 Temperament: Peaceful but active (may nip soft plants)
🍽️ Diet: Flakes, micro pellets, frozen & live foods
👥 Group Size: 6–10+ recommended
Buenos Aires Tetras are very adaptable and tolerate a wide range of water conditions. They do best in spacious aquariums with strong filtration and plenty of swimming room.
🐠 Compatibility
Best suited for active community aquariums with similarly robust fish such as barbs, larger tetras, rainbowfish, and Corydoras. Avoid delicate, slow-moving, or long-finned species, as their activity can cause stress or fin nipping.
Important Notes
Buenos Aires Tetras are known to occasionally nip soft-leaved plants, so hardy plants or artificial aquascapes may be more suitable. Keeping them in larger groups helps reduce fin-nipping behaviour and encourages natural schooling.
The Buenos Aires Tetra is an excellent choice for UK aquarists looking for a tough, energetic, and visually striking schooling fish that thrives in larger community setups.
