Desmopuntius pentazona, commonly designated as the five-banded barb, constitutes a diminutive freshwater cyprinid indigenous to Southeast Asian aquatic ecosystems. These specimens exhibit gregarious behavioral patterns characterized by pronounced shoaling tendencies, optimally maintained in congregations exceeding five individuals. Their temperament is notably non-aggressive, facilitating successful integration within diverse community aquarium assemblages containing similarly placid ichthyofauna.
