Pelvicachromis pulcher, colloquially designated as the Rainbow Kribensis or simply Kribensis, constitutes a diminutive cichlid species endemic to West African fluvial systems, predominantly within Nigerian and Cameroonian watersheds. This taxon exhibits relatively non-aggressive territorial behavior, facilitating integration within appropriately structured community aquaria. Their distinctive polychromatic phenotype encompasses iridescent lavender ventral regions, xanthic and viridescent chromatic elements, and pronounced longitudinal melanistic banding. Sexual dichromatism becomes particularly evident during reproductive periods, with females manifesting intensified erythematic or violaceous ventral pigmentation as part of their breeding display.
