Ranunculus flammula (Lesser Spearwort) is a hardy British native perennial (10–50cm tall) ideal for pond margins, bog gardens, and wet, sunny areas. It features creeping stems, narrow, spear-shaped leaves, and a profusion of small, bright yellow, 5-petaled flowers blooming from May to September.
Key Characteristics and Uses:
Appearance: Red-tinged green stems with lance-shaped foliage and cup-shaped flowers.
Habit: Creeping, mat-forming growth, making it excellent for ground cover.
Habitat: Thrives in shallow water (up to 10-15cm deep) or constantly wet, boggy soil.
Wildlife Value: Excellent for pollinators (bees/flies) and provides cover for amphibians.
Note: Contains toxins that can irritate skin and mucus membranes.
