📛 Common Name: Red Eye Tetra
🏠 Tank Size: 70L+ recommended
🌡️ Temperature: 22–28°C
⚗️ pH Range: 6.0–7.5
🧘 Temperament: Peaceful (very active)
🍽️ Diet: Flakes, micro pellets, frozen & live foods
👥 Group Size: 6–10+ recommended
Red Eye Tetras are very adaptable and thrive in a wide range of aquarium conditions. They prefer open swimming space with some planted areas for cover.
🐠 Compatibility
Best suited to active community aquariums. Ideal tank mates include barbs, larger tetras, rainbowfish, Corydoras, and other robust peaceful species. Avoid very slow or long-finned fish, as their activity level can cause stress.
Important Notes
Red Eye Tetras are strong swimmers and can become fin-nippy if kept in small groups. Keeping them in larger shoals significantly reduces this behaviour and encourages natural schooling.
The Red Eye Tetra is a fantastic choice for UK aquarists looking for a hardy, active, and visually striking schooling fish that performs well in both beginner and established community aquariums.
