Yamato Shrimp thrive in mature aquariums with stable water conditions, plenty of hiding places, and lots of plants, mosses, driftwood, and rocks to graze upon. Although they are excellent algae eaters, they should still receive supplementary feeding, particularly in spotless aquariums where natural food sources are limited.
Regular water changes and good filtration help maintain the clean, oxygen-rich conditions they prefer.

Important Notes
Unlike Cherry Shrimp, Yamato Shrimp cannot breed successfully in freshwater. While females regularly carry eggs, the larvae require brackish water to develop before eventually returning to freshwater. This means they will not overpopulate the average freshwater aquarium.
Yamato Shrimp are exceptional algae eaters and are particularly effective at controlling soft green algae, hair algae, and leftover food. However, they are not a solution for every type of algae, so good aquarium maintenance and balanced lighting remain essential.
Like all shrimp, Yamato Shrimp are sensitive to copper-based medications and poor water quality. They also require stable parameters, as sudden changes in temperature or water chemistry can cause stress during moulting.
